The College of Canons consists of the Dean, the Assistant Bishop, all four Residentiary Canons, the Archdeacon of Lindisfarne and up to eighteen Honorary Canons who are diocesan clergy.
About The Canons
Additionally we now have twelve Lay Canons, who are appointed by the Bishop for terms of five years. Part of the role of the Canons, both Honorary and Lay, is to be ambassadors for the Cathedral throughout the diocese. The Bishop may confer the title of '[Lay] Canon Emeritus' on a retiring Honorary or Lay Canon.
The 12.30 Eucharist on Tuesday is usually celebrated by an Honorary Canon or a Canon Emeritus.
